I think I used Tordon Gold from memory but look it up, hit them, graze the land and for me anyway - a huge sucess. They are nasty but get onto it, spray them out (even as baby plants if you have the time) and you will win. Know that if you have callis and you spray out any area with glysulphate, or burn off on a piece of land, the first thing that will raise it's head is callis. Having lived on a hill property where mowing was not an option, I had fantastic success with spraying them out just before flowering. On the other hand, callis are a whole different ball ground and you will hear a heap of different ways to deal with them. HOWEVER - if your neighbours are not doing the same thing then you will have to continue to maintain your own property and daft as it sounds, it does work. I am assuming calli as I have sucessfully grubbed thistles for years by cutting below ground level and every year meant a huge drop in thistle numbers. Is it not obvious that we are dealing with Cali thistles here? You cannot grub them (well you can on a street to nowhere) because they send out root shoots and will just pop up in the same area with new plants.
